Shear Wave Elastography
What is an Shear Wave Elastography?
Shear wave elastography is an imaging technique which quantifies liver stiffness, by measuring the speed of sheer waves in the liver tissue.
By measuring the speed of the ultrasound in the liver tissue, the underlying stiffness of the liver is quantified. A low speed corresponds to a soft liver, while a high speed indicates stiffer tissue.
What happens during my Shear Wave Elastography Test?
Much like having an abdominal ultrasound, you will be required to be flat on the ultrasound couch facing the ceiling. You wont feel anything. The ultrasound technician will use their camera to take measurements of the liver to obtain special readings for the test.
